STATIC SERVICE

Pleiades Data Corp (PDC) currently operates seven full time dual frequency geodetic quality reference stations in Alberta and four in Ontario. Receivers are located so as to provide nearly seamless coverage for users in the more populated areas of the province. PDC operates reference stations in:

  • Calgary (Leica)
  • Edmonton (Leica)
  • Fort McMurray (Timble)
  • Medicine Hat (Timble)
  • Lethbridge (Leica)
  • Peace River (Timble)
  • Grand Prairie (Timble)
  • Burlington (Leica)
  • Etobicoke (Ashtech)
  • Halton-Peel (Ashtech)
  • Scarborough (Ashtech)
GPS Data (Dual frequency Phase and Code) is collected at a 5 second data collection rate using Trimble 4000 ssi or Leica RS500 dual frequency geodetic receivers. Data is available in RINEX, Trimble's DAT or SSF as well as Leica's proprietary data format.

Data is collected 24 hours per day, and retained on-line for a one-month period in all formats for download via FTP by authorized users (subscribe). One-second data is also available upon prior request. Data more than one month old is archived to tape and is available off-line by contacting a PDC representative, or by sending a request by e-Mail.

Data is collected and organized into hourly files. All hourly files are time tagged in Universal Time (UTC) and are compressed using the PKZIP utility. Users will require either the WinZip or PKUNZIP utility to decompress the files.

PDC data enables users to obtain cm accuracy over distances in excess of 100 km. Data processing is possible with any standard baseline processing software.

Please contact PDC if you have any questions about this or any other service provided by PDC.

RTK SERVICE

In addition to our static service, PDC is currently offering RTK service through its Calgary, Edmonton, and Lehbridge reference stations. PDC has the same service in the Toronto area.

PDC reference stations allow users to dial in and retrieve real-time corrections via the Telus digital cellular network using a simple digital cell phone. The data is broadcast at a 1-second data rate in the Compact Measurement Record (CMR) format at a 19200 baud rate. See TELUS digital coverage. RTK, Rocky using cell phone to get at RTK Data

Real-time surveying is made possible far beyond the normal range of traditional RTK, which is limited to the effective range of the users radio. This allows users the ability to quickly capture all required spatial data without having to leap-frog their base stations from known control to the project area. The user simply requires a single RTK receiver and a cellular phone to get the job done with substantial savings to company and client. The digital cellular is placed in the backpack along side the GPS receiver, a connection is established using a specified controller hot key.

Since all PDC reference stations are integrated into the provincial spatial referencing system, users can be confident in the results they are getting. Repeatability testing has shown sub-centimetre precision using PDC's RTK service. Using PDCs RTK service provides centimetre level accuracy up to 25 kms from our reference stations. Furthermore, sub-metre accuracy can be obtained over distances of several hundred kilometres. For more detailed information on Pleiades Data Corp's RTK service and the results attainable please see the associated technical report.
